REPAIR TRAINING
Do you want to learn how to service your instrument?
We offer beginner courses and advanced repair tuition on brass and woodwind instruments tailored to fit any budding repairer. This can be booked as an in person one to one session, as a presentation for a larger group or as a online call tailored to your needs.
With one to one training and online mentoring we can teach you how to polish keywork, how to strip down any instrument, the importance of good tool use and the impact of quality materials. We will pull back the curtain on how regulations, pad seating, venting and spring tension come together to make your Instrument work at peak performance.
We also offer more general presentations which can be booked for groups of teachers, players and students to learn how to best maintain and store instruments, how to play test any woodwind or how to clean and set up brass instruments at home. This option is great for events or training days and can be a valuable investment for any band, school or music service.
Sun runs a regular course at Dawkes called Getting to know your Instrument, which is a perfect place to start for a player wanting to learn how to check for leaks and do small repairs on the go. This course is held in person at Dawkes in Maidenhead, typically on a Sunday, and can be booked through Ticket Tailor.
If you are interested in our workshops, the best place to start is to get in touch and tell us a bit about what you would like to learn, and we will help you find the best course forward. For larger presentations and workshops, please include the size of the group and if it is part of an event.
No further experience is required for any of our sessions, but an interest in mechanics, engineering, or general “tinkering” are all useful skills for learning instrument repair.
